Last year was the first time we had a drama-based annual day and it left us amazed - but this year our students have impressed us even more! Our drama teacher, Mr. Shaun Williams, involved the students in the entire process, beyond just their performances, through the course of the whole year. From script-writing, to designing and creating costumes, researching for set designs, to producing background scores, and more - all the productions were highly student-driven!

Video About Gateway
Gateway was approached by Adhyayan - an organization comprised of Indian and international educationists dedicated to improving the quality of leadership and learning in schools - to feature in a video series on inclusion. Different team members have contributed to the video, explaining different aspects of our programs and philosophies.

Internal Professional Development
We have had a week of professional development (PD) workshops and activities and planning across departments and levels! As always, it has been both rigorous and exciting and we look forward to coming back to two more weeks of planning and PD!
Plastic Collection Drive
Some of our middle school students (‘The Rising Phoenix’) conducted a plastic collection drive. An extension of their environmental management (EVM) class, this was intended to spread awareness about the harmful effects of plastic use and alternative methods of plastic disposal. Along with their teacher, Ms. Noella Samuel, they identified an NGO that collects used plastic materials and converts them into usable polyfuel! We’re so glad to see our budding environmentalists take a step towards community change!
Furtado’s School Of Music (FSM)
Gateway has been conducting professional development activities for FSM for over a year now - team members from across departments recently conducted multiple workshops for groups of 90 or more participants.

"SAVE YOUR VOICE, YOU HAVE A CHOICE!!!"
Our final blog post for the year is authored by Ms. Ridhika Shah (Speech & Language Department Coordinator at Gateway). She tells us how to confuse our children - yes, you read that right! She explains how the concept of "pattern interrupt" can be used to retain and regain our students' attention in the classroom. Intrigued? Read to find out!
Ms. Parmi Dheemsa - a philanthropist and lobbyist for disability rights, who also founded and is director of a UK-based NGO 'Include Me TOO', visited us to learn more about our services and practices, and share her work with us.

"A leader's job is to see in others what they cannot see in themselves." - Siamack Zahedi
We also see two people who have been at the very heart of Gateway renounce their roles - Mr. Siamack Zahedi & Ms. Radhika Misquitta. But they will continue to be part of the Gateway community - Siamack will be an honorary trustee, and Radhika will lead our newly established R&D and Outreach Department. We are so glad that they will continue to be involved in the goings-on at Gateway - we appreciate and celebrate all that they have given our community since they established it, and all the innovation and inspiration that they will continue to provide. Needless to say, without them we would not be the community that we are today.
Thank you Siamack and Radhika!
Sad endings, but also happy beginnings - we welcome many eager new faces and look forward to working with you all!
