Job Description

The successful candidate will be an in-service adaptive physical educator with a background in physical education and teaching yoga, and experience working with students of varying abilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creating an inclusive environment where each student can develop physical skills and confidence, regardless of physical challenges or prior experience. They should be open to learning on the job, adapting activities, and employing creative strategies to ensure all students participate and progress in physical education.

Preferred Skills & Demonstrated Knowledge:

Strong understanding of adaptive physical education techniques and practices, with the ability to modify activities for students with diverse physical and cognitive abilities.

Knowledge of physical fitness, motor skills development, and gross motor coordination in students with special needs.

Experience working with students who have developmental, sensory, or mobility challenges, ensuring safety and inclusion in all activities.

Ability to design and implement individualized physical education plans in collaboration with occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other support staff.

Skilled in using assistive devices and adaptive equipment to enhance students’ participation and success in physical activities.

Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills to foster positive relationships with students, parents, and interdisciplinary teams.

Ability to track and assess student progress, providing clear feedback and recommendations for continued development.

Capacity to create a safe, engaging, and motivating environment that encourages physical activity, teamwork, and individual growth.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

Developing comprehensive annual and unit plans to ensure a cohesive curriculum.

Creating detailed lesson plans prior to each class to guide instruction and ensure student engagement.

Collaborating with homeroom teachers to design, maintain, and present PE-related appropriate goals as part of the reports.

Attending parent-teacher conferences when requested by homeroom teachers.

Proactively communicating with parents and responding to queries in a timely manner, following the homeroom’s parent communication protocols.

Participating in all required professional development (PD) activities, including workshops, book clubs, and online courses.

Attending all Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative department or school meetings as required.

Assisting in organizing school events and functions as needed.

Performing any additional duties necessary to ensure the school’s services align with and support its founding vision and goals.

Qualification and Pre-requisite:

A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education is required; Adaptive Physical Education degree is preferred or MA in PE.

Candidates who are certified yoga instructors with relevant teaching experience are preferred.

Contract Terms:

This is a full-time position.

The candidate is expected to work at the school campus from Monday–Friday, 8 am–4 pm.
